Research and planning - Pitch Board

This is my pitch board showing my idea of the surroundings, location and mise en scene for my music video. The board creates a love feel that is typical of a pop music video. The use of flowers and sunshine is featured a lot in the pop genre and in artists music videos such a Taylor Swift, she creates a girly love and romance feel to her videos and i feel this will really work in my music video as the artist i have created relates to teenage girls who fantasise about fairytale love. The woods represents lost and links to the music video and it is about a break up. Walking in a big field and swinging alone on a swing shows the idea of thinking and wondering, this also relates to a break up as it gives you time to think and the idea of wonder shows the what if side and how you want the person back who you have broken up with.

Research and planning - Directors Pitch

1. Ideas for the video - concept: My idea for my own music video is to produce a stereotypical Pop video that relate to many artists videos such as Taylor Swift and Colbie Calliat. This is because i believe that this way really works to attract the correct audience (Teenage Girls). By using a boy and a girl to create a love feeling in the video will help show that teenage heart break and how people miss what they had, this can be done by using flash backs of a girl and boy together holding hands and laughing, then showing a girl on her own looking sad and the lyrics can relate to her. Locations such as a field or a park would be ideal for the music video as teenages tend to hang around in the park or on a field and the audience will relate to this as it may bring back a memory of there first love or crush. This location also relates to many pop videos such as Taylor Swift - back to december music video and many of her other music videos.

2. Intertextual references - I can use intertextual references by reminding the audience of a memory such as their first crush or other music videos such as Taylor Swift - back to december when it shows memories that taylor has.

3. Locations / Special features needed: The location for the music video will be in a field and by a llake. Speacial features need are editing such as filters fades, a sunny day will be needed as i want to catch the sun on the artits face as she is the main focus and also so i can film zooming into the sun.

From all my research on websites, adverts and front covers i have decided to create an advert rather than a website this is because my artists Emma Jones is a new artist and needs to be noticed, by creating an advert it will raise awareness to potential fans. Instead of a website i will create a facebook page that will show information about my artist and will be a way for fans to connect to Emma. I will also create a front cover of Emma's Album and a Digi pack.

Research and planning - Advert Analysis- Taylor Swift

This is an advert for a new film called The Hunger Games. The civil wars is a single by Taylor and is featured in the movie This advert advertises the film whilst advertising the single, it does this in the text by saying "Taylor Swift featuring the civil wars" and by being in the same text as the title "The Hunger Games" and relates the two together. By relating the two it gives Taylor a opportunity to gain more fans who wouldn't normally listen to Taylor but by it being in a new film they like it will make them more interested. The advert also says "Exclusive single" This makes the audience want to buy the single as it is exclusive and they could be one of the first to purchase it, the advert gives the audience a chance to buy the single by adding an iTunes link that will take them straight to buy the single.

This is my mock up Website homepage. I wanted the background of the website to be very girly and have a fantasy look , this is because the target audience for my artist is teenage girls between the age of 13-16 and alot of teenage girls fantasize about life and love and the background will relate to the fans. The background also relates to my artist as she is very girly and has had many dreams growing up. The layout of the home page is very similar to Taylor Swifts website as i think this layout is very clear and effective, by having an image of he artist and their name and also "welcome to my website" it maked the viewer feel the artist is talkng to them and fans feel closer to the artist. The image is used shows a shy side to my artist as many teenage girls are shy and hide behind things, the artist relates to this as she hides behind her music and her music really expresses her and her feelings.

Step by Step - How i made the website

I first found an image that i wanted to be used for the background of the website, i then opened this in photoshop.

I added text at the top of the image, this is the tool bar that gives a link to related pages.

To make the tool bar stand out i pasted a rectangle on top of the text by using the shape tool.

I then added an image of mt artist and lowered the opacity to make the image blend into the background image.


To finish off the home page i added the artist name "Emma Jones" and "welcome to my website" by using the text tool.

This is the first page when entering the website it is showing Colbie's new single and advertises it to buy on iTunes, This very clever as it gives awareness of Colbie as an artist and is a good use of advertising as many people visiting the site will automatically click on the video and listen to Colbie's single and it may make them buy the single.
At the bottom of the page there is "enter website" written in the right hand corner and then. links to social networking sites such as "twitter" and also to "you tube", This is a good way of giving the viewer options to different areas of finding out about Colbie.

Once clicking on enter website you go straight to the home page.

This is the home page. it is clearly structured and has a subtle colour scheme of blue, yellow, white and pink. The use of colour sujests the artist is calm and has a fun and cool personality or style of music. Colbie Caillat is in big font in the top left corner this attracts your attention. The home page has a section to advertise for example here is an advert for a concert Colbie is in, this is a good way to give awareness about Colbie and fans and new fans can find out the latest news and places she will be performing.

The home page also give fans a chance to subscribe to the Colbie Caillat mailing list, this brings fans close to the artist and gives them a chance to ask questions and find out about Colbie.


The website has a tool bar that shows all the pages you can access, for example store. The store page is where the public can buy merchendice and products colbie has helped design, this give fans an opertunity to support Colbie and advertise and build awareness.

The home page provides Colbie's latest tweets something bringing her and fans close together.

Research and planning - Finished Mock Up Album Cover

This is my mock album cover for Emma Jones. I decided to use an image that focused on the artist and by having light on her face it shows she is the main focus. The Pop genre focuses on the artist alot so this really works. I like how the background makes the artist stand out but i feel in the Pop genre it needs to have more colour. When making my final front cover and digi pak i will use the same effect of light on the artists face from studio lighting and effects in photoshop. I wil also create a girly feel to them by adding colour.

Mock up album cover- step by step

To create this mock up album cover i used photoshop. First i decided what image i wanted on the front of the album. I picked an image of my artist. It is a side shot and close up of her face with light shining through. I then cropped the image to the correct size by using the cropping tool.

I then added text in the top right corner this shows the artist name" Emma Jones" and then the
album name "unbreakable" underneath in smaller font.

Hey, I’m Emma. I am 19 years old and have finally moved into my own space, something I never thought would happen. I love music nearly as much as I love my family and very inspired by the world around me, this comes through in my music. The future is one of the main things I fantasize about every day and like every teenage girl love is one of my favourite fantasies. Everyone should have and find love and my music is inspired by my parents love for each other and that everyone can and will find love.
I grew up in Surrey and now live on London, I had always felt I’d be in Surrey forever but now my dreams are becoming reality and my singing career is growing I am able to place my once dream of a life into something real, I am super excited about this.
I was quite shy at school and kept myself to myself, all I thought about was music and my mum was like my best friend and still is. Like a normal teenager I went through the same high school troubles, being bullied for not fitting in and the embarrassment of being rejected by my first crush.
For the last year I have been moving into my own apartment, writing and recording my first album “unbreakable”. I write down and try to express how I feel through my music and inspire teenagers to believe there is so much more to life than high school.
